- Have a child who has been living in New Zealand for at least three years as a citizen or resident.
- Submit an expression of interest (EOI) form with your details, your child’s details, your partner’s details (if any), and your English language ability.
- Wait for an invitation from Immigration New Zealand to apply for residence. Invitations are sent every three months from a pool of EOIs that meet the criteria.
- Meet the health, character, and English language requirements for residence. You may need to pay for English language lessons if you do not speak English well.
- Have a sponsor who is your child or their partner, or another adult child of yours who is included in your application.
- Your sponsor must have enough income to support you and any other applicants.
- Not have any dependent children of your own. Only parents and legal guardians can apply for this visa category.
- Grandparents may also apply if they meet certain conditions.
