Skilled Migration Category
How does it work
Skilled Migrant Category is a point-based system where an automatic selection is made from the pool if you score 160* or more points called pass mark.
Points are awarded for
- Relevant / Absolute Shortage Skill List Work Experience
- Skilled Employment in New Zealand
- Spouse Qualification
- Spouse Skilled Employment in New Zealand
Stage 1: Expression of Interest
You lodge your Expression of Interest on the basis of points score you can claim on different grounds.
Stage 2 Invitation to apply
The EOI pool takes place every fortnight and EOIs are selected on the basis of pass mark. After preliminary assessment, invitation is then granted to apply for residence.
Stage 3: Assessment and Approval
An assessment is then made by Immigration New Zealand on the documents you submitted.

Residence Visa under Long Term Skill Shortage/ Art & Talent/ Employer Accreditation
Under this category, individuals with specific skills, talent and employment from accredited employer have an opportunity of making New Zealand their permanent home.
Family Partnership Category Residence
If you are living in a genuine and stable relationship with your partner/spouse who is a New Zealand Resident / Citizen for over one year or more, you may be eligible to apply for a residence visa under this category subject to meeting all other eligibility requirements.
